A range of study tours in and around Dundee

Study Tour 1

Improving accessibility and providing opportunities through cycling, featuring Electric Bikes Scotland and Craigie High School

Leaving from the Caird Hall, this tour will lead delegates to the City Quay area to Electric Bikes Scotland. Delegates will hear a short presentation from Electric Bike Scotland on the work that they do, and then get the opportunity to try out an e-bike.

The tour will then move on, cycling along the newly opened Docks Path to Grassy Beach, one of the few remaining areas of original grasslands in Dundee, which boasts a shared-use path and links to the Green Circular.

Continue cycling to Craigie High School, to hear a presentation from the school on what they are doing to make cycling accessible for more people at the school, as a successful Cycle Friendly Secondary School. 

Cycle back to the Caird Hall to complete the tour.

Study Tour 2

Showcasing Dundee’s Waterfront transformation and cycling infrastructure, featuring Dundee City Council, Sustrans Scotland and V&A Dundee

Following a short presentation from Dundee City Council on the waterfront redevelopment and cycling infrastructure developments, delegates will leave from the Caird Hall and cycle along the waterfront taking in Discovery Point, Tay Road Bridge, the site of the new Active Travel Hub, and the V&A museum. Delegates will then stop here to view the transformation and this will be followed by a guided tour of the new V&A museum.

Following the museum tour, delegates will continue cycling to the University of Dundee Institute for Sport and Exercise Sports Pavilion and will hear about their adult cycling project.

Cycle back to the Caird Hall, passing the Seabraes Bridge, Dundee Science Centre, and Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre, to conclude the tour.

Study Tour 3

Dundee: A Walking Tour, featuring University of Dundee, and V&A Dundee

This tour is a walking tour. Following a short presentation from Dundee City Council on the waterfront redevelopment and cycling infrastructure developments, delegates will leave from the Caird Hall, and travel to the V&A museum, passing the Tay Road and Discovery Point en-route, to receive a guided tour of the V&A museum. The tour will be led by Councillor Lynne Short, Convenor of City Development, Dundee City Council.

Following the guided tour, delegates will travel to the University of Dundee to hear a short presentation on their experience of being involved in the Cycle Friendly Campus programme, and other initiatives, and receive a tour of their facilities.

Return to the Caird Hall to conclude the tour.

Study Tour 4

A coastal cycling tour on NCN Route 1 to Broughty Ferry, Monifieth and Carnoustie, featuring Sustrans Scotland and Dundee City Council

Travelling a distance of approximately 20 miles, delegates will set off from the Caird Hall and cycle initially along part of Dundee’s Green Circular, travelling east along the picturesque coast through Broughty Ferry to Monifieth.

The tour will take in several points of interest along the route, including the newly opened Dundee Maritime Quarter, the newly opened Docks Path, Grassy Beach, Broughty Ferry Local Nature Reserve, and Broughty Ferry beach and esplanade.

The tour will then continue along NCN route 1 out to Carnoustie.

Delegates will then return to the Caird Hall to complete the tour.
