Funding for local cycling events to inspire beginners to Pedal for Scotland

1 February 2021

Community organisations across Scotland can currently apply for funding to organise free, beginner and family friendly cycling events in 2021, subject to mass participation events going ahead this year.

After the first round of funding which closed in December 2020, four communities have been awarded funding to organise events which help encourage more people to cycle:

The second round of funding is now open. Organisations can apply for up-to-£10,000 grants to run local Pedal for Scotland events for between 250 and 700 people. A total of £12,505 funding has been awarded.

There are also up-to-£1,000 grants for community organisations to support local cycling events for between 50 and 250 people. Funding can be used for event set up, equipment, insurance and route support.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon, Monday 8 March.

All events need to be inclusive and non-competitive, community-led, on beginner-friendly cycling routes and delivered with minimal environmental impact.  Pedal for Scotland events (grants up to £10,000) also need to be free, linked to local cycling infrastructure and supportive of local skills and resources development.

This new scheme, funded by Transport Scotland, aims to help build a series of inclusive cycling events across Scotland to support people new to cycling, building on the 20-year legacy of our Pedal for Scotland events.
