Cycling Friendly Primary School

Cycle Friendly Primary School

Support more children to ride their bikes.

Cycling to school brings so many positive benefits: keeping children fit and healthy, building their confidence and giving them skills for life. Our nationally accredited programme provides an award scheme to support primary schools to make it easier for pupils to cycle, encouraging more sustainable transport choices.

What? Funding of up to £25,000 to purchase equipment and cycle parking to help overcome barriers to cycling.

Why? Encouraging pupils to cycle builds confidence, keeps kids healthy and engages hard-to-reach students.

Who? All schools in Scotland can apply to the development fund. Local authorities may also apply on behalf of schools.

How? Register your interest in the funding and a Cycling Scotland Development Officer will get in touch to discuss your requirements

Applications received by 27th October 2022 will be included in the next assessment round.

The award supports Scottish primary schools to develop cycling and increase the opportunities for children to cycle to school. From the initial registration through to assessment, we work closely with teachers, parents and pupils to help them achieve the award and schools are supported through each step of the process towards becoming Cycling Friendly.

Award handbook

Every primary school in Scotland can apply: it doesn't matter if a school currently provides few opportunities to cycle; what is most important is a vision, a willingness and a commitment to increasing cycling opportunities.

Take the first steps to becoming Cycling Friendly by reading the award handbook and contact us if you have any questions.
