Give Cycle Space: Andrew's story

6 July 2020

Andrew Stewart works in Aberdeen for Aberdeenshire Council across the health and transport sectors. He said: “I get about Aberdeen using public transport, walking and cycling. When I am cycling, I enjoy the sense of personal freedom and the fresh air."

When we asked him about close passing he said “I’ve had quite a few close passes while cycling. It feels intimidating when vehicles overtake too closely and, to be honest, it upsets me to have a car get that close to me. There are potholes to dodge and sometimes a wind to contend with, so it’s good to have space. I think if everyone was more considerate of each other it would be fantastic.

“I’m sure that if more drivers understood how frightening it can be to close pass someone cycling there would be change.”
